Dina Riyanti
is an illustrator from Indonesia
Hello! Art has been my passion since a long time. I studied Printmaking for my BA (Faculty Of Art & Design, Bandung Institute of Technology, 1993-1998). Along the way, I fell passionately in love with the art of children's book illustration. I decided to pursue further education to learn about it, and I am very grateful to have been accepted in the MA Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School Of Art. I graduated in January 2019.
Previously, I have illustrated a few books in Indonesia, notably Rambut Messy! (Messy's Hair)!, Wuli Si Pemarah (Wuli The Angry Girl), both in 2009, and Jangan Sedih, Bujang! (Don't Be Sad, Bujang!) in 2014. In 2017, I led a team to develop level books for Papuan children, under the UNICEF Indonesia for Papua, as well as being involved as an author and illustrator.
I am drawn to colours, humour, heartwarming message and the richness of cultural diversity. I am striving to achieve simplicity and effectiveness in telling the story through my illustration. I still find it very difficult, and I am continuously learning and exploring to get there. I am enjoying my illustration journey :)
