Dina Riyanti

is an illustrator from Indonesia

Hello! Art has been my passion since a long time. I studied Printmaking for my BA (Faculty Of Art & Design, Bandung Institute of Technology, 1993-1998). Along the way, I fell passionately in love with the art of children's book illustration. I decided to pursue further education to learn about it, and I am very grateful to have been accepted in the MA Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School Of Art. I graduated in January 2019.

Previously, I have illustrated a few books in Indonesia, notably Rambut Messy! (Messy's Hair)!Wuli Si Pemarah (Wuli The Angry Girl), both in 2009, and Jangan Sedih, Bujang! (Don't Be Sad, Bujang!) in 2014. In 2017, I led a team to develop level books for Papuan children, under the UNICEF Indonesia for Papua, as well as being involved as an author and illustrator.

I am drawn to colours, humour, heartwarming message and the richness of cultural diversity. I am striving to achieve simplicity and effectiveness in telling the story through my illustration. I still find it very difficult, and I am continuously learning and exploring to get there. I am enjoying my illustration journey :)
